GLTA Congratulates Successful Candidates in 2024 Board Elections

The GLTA Board of Directors is pleased to announce the results of its 2024 Board of Directors election, conducted October 8-29, 2023.  The Board congratulates Leo Reece and Daniel Cribb for obtaining the highest number of votes among six excellent, dedicated candidates.  Leo and Daniel will begin three-year terms on the Board to begin at the first meeting of the Board of Directors, which will be conducted in January 2024 in Melbourne, Australia at the GLTA World Tour Championships.

The Board is comprised of five volunteer positions: President/Chief Executive Officer, Marketing Director, Rankings Director, Secretary and Treasurer.  Elections are held annually for one or two at-large director positions to fill three-year terms.  The Board collectively selects the specific position each board member will fill at the first Board meeting of each year based on each Board member’s personal strengths and interests.

One representative from each GLTA member club is entitled to vote in GLTA elections, so long as that club remains in good standing (either by hosting at least one GLTA-sanctioned tournament in the year of the election or by paying a sanctioning fee for an approved GLTA tournament to be conducted in the following calendar year, and meeting all other membership obligations).  This election, there were 80 eligible voters60 representatives submitted votes during the voting period – a wildly successful 75% turnout!  The election was conducted entirely online through electionbuddy.com, and the process and results were audited and confirmed by two individuals unaffiliated with the Board – Beaury Talley of the United States; and Hendry Lukman of Australia.

The GLTA thanks each of the wonderful candidates – Joey Dillon, Phil Sokolov, Freddy Quevedo, Claudio Rivolta, Leo, and Daniel – for their willingness to serve on the Board, their unwavering commitment to the GLTA, and their innovative ideas for continuing the GLTA’s growth and success.  It is only through the dedication of volunteers and the enthusiasm of players, tournament directors, and member representatives that the GLTA can continue to offer a safe space for LGBTQIA+ tennis players and fans across the globe. The GLTA welcomes Leo and Daniel back to the Board and looks forward to a successful 2024 GLTA calendar year, by expanding the GLTA’s reach to new tournaments and players and by celebrating our existing tournaments and players, across five continents and over 70 international destinations.

If you are interested in serving on the GLTA Board of Directors, the next election for two at-large director positions will take place in October 2024.  In addition, the Board is always looking for new volunteers.  If you are interested in offering your time or ideas to the GLTA, please reach out to the Board at tennis@GLTA.net or to any of the individual Board members directly.
