Happy International Transgender Day of Visibility

On March 31st, the GLTA joins the global community in celebrating International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV). This day is dedicated to honoring the achievements, resilience, and joy of transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people worldwide—including the many incredible athletes who make our tennis community stronger.

While TDOV is a moment for celebration, it is also a vital reminder of our collective responsibility to ensure that the “visibility” we champion is met with safety, respect, and a true sense of belonging.

Our Commitment: GLTA Transgender Inclusion Policy

The GLTA was founded on the principle of providing a safe, welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. To move beyond words and into action, we want to take this opportunity to reinforce our Trans Inclusion Policy.

We believe that everyone deserves the right to play the sport they love as their authentic selves. Our policy is built on three core pillars:

  • Self-Identification: The GLTA recognizes an athlete’s gender identity. Players are encouraged to compete in the category that best aligns with their gender identity.
  • Zero Tolerance for Discrimination: Harassment, transphobia, or exclusionary behavior of any kind has no place on or off our courts. We are committed to maintaining an environment where every player feels protected and valued.
  • Continuous Education: We are dedicated to evolving. We are working closely with advocacy groups and our tournament directors to ensure our practices remain inclusive, modern, and supportive of the trans community.

More Than Just a Game

Visibility matters because it challenges stereotypes and builds empathy and understanding. When our trans members step onto the court, they aren’t just players; they are helping to redefine what inclusivity looks like in sports.

However, we recognize that visibility can also bring vulnerability. As we celebrate TDOV, we ask all GLTA members to be active allies. Listen to trans voices, respect pronouns, and speak up against exclusionary rhetoric.

Get Involved

Visibility looks different for everyone. If you’d like to share a story, thought, or experience—big or small, joyful or meaningful—we invite you to join us in marking Trans Day of Visibility by tagging #GLTATennis and #TDOV26.

To our trans and non-binary players: We see you, we celebrate you, and we are honored to have you on the GLTA World Tour.
