GLTA Commemorates the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia!

For decades, the GLTA has strived to create safe, inclusive, and welcoming spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies through the sport of tennis. We believe that sport has the power to break down barriers, challenge prejudice, and unite communities. On this significant day, we stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ people everywhere who continue to face discrimination, violence, and marginalization.

While progress has been made, we recognize that homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia remain persistent issues globally, impacting the lives, well-being, and safety of countless individuals. Within the sporting world, this can manifest as exclusionary policies, discriminatory behavior, and a hostile environment that prevents LGBTQ+ individuals from fully participating and thriving.

The GLTA is proud to be a part of a global movement that champions inclusivity in sports. We are committed to:

  • Promoting Visibility: Celebrating LGBTQ+ athletes and their contributions to tennis and the broader sporting community.
  • Ensuring Safe Spaces: Working with our member clubs and tournaments worldwide to guarantee that all GLTA-sanctioned events are free from discrimination and harassment.
  • Educating and Advocating: Raising awareness about the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in sports and advocating for policies that promote inclusion and equality.
  • Building Alliances: Collaborating with other LGBTQ+ sports organizations and allies to amplify our collective voice and impact.

On this IDAHOTB, we call upon our members, partners, and the wider tennis community to join us in actively challenging prejudice and fostering an environment where everyone can bring their whole selves to the game we love. Let us continue to swing our racquets for equality, celebrate diversity, and serve up a future free from discrimination.
