GLTA Championships 2021/2022
The GLTA World Tour Championships hold a unique place among GLTA tennis events. This is the culmination of all GLTA Tournaments and a wonderful opportunity for our best players from all over the world to showcase their skills. The location for 2021/2022 has now been decided. Additionally, there will be some awesome changes that are likely to make these Championships truly memorable and unique.
The GLTA World Tour Championships will be held February 2–5, 2023 in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, Spain. We picked this location because everyone deserves a holiday in the sun and this Spanish island is a popular destination because of its great climate. Gran Canaria enjoys year-round sunshine and temperatures that rarely drop below 20 degrees Celsius.
Fun Fact: there is an artificial beach called Anfi del Mar in the southern part of Gran Canaria. The beach was born as an initiative to recreate the beauty of the Caribbean beaches in Gran Canaria, for which tons of white sand were brought from the Bahamas. In order to reduce the strong waves and to achieve a dream beach, also a breakwater was installed.
This year’s Championships will be unique because, for the first time, we will be inviting the best men and best women on our tour to participate during the same Championship weekend.
Additionally, for the first time in GLTA history, invites will be sent to the best mixed doubles players in each category.
It is safe to say that Championships are always special, but this year’s event will be even more so given its inclusive nature. We can’t wait to see who will emerge as champions in what promises to be a positively competitive event.
Who will be invited?
The GLTA World Tour Championships are open to the top 8 male and female players in each singles and doubles division (Open, A, B, C, D) and the top 4 male and female players in each mixed division.
There are still a few tournaments left in 2022 so keep playing and keep collecting the points to get your invitation at the end of the year!
