GLTA Opens Applications for Board Member Positions
The GLTA Board of Directors is excited to announce that the organization’s 2024 elections will take place in December 2024. Now is a perfect time to be a part of the GLTA’s growth by running for a position on the organization’s Executive Board.
The number of board positions up for election this year will depend on the upcoming vote to amend the organization’s Bylaws.
If the Bylaws amendments related to board positions are approved, three at-large positions will be up for election. At least one Board position from this election must be filled by a woman. Candidates may live anywhere in the world, and the Board encourages all interested candidates, no matter where they live, to run for election.
If the Bylaws amendments related to board positions are not approved, two at-large positions will be up for election. Candidates would fill regional board positions for Australia/Asia and for Europe. Therefore, any interested candidates must live in those regions of the world.
Elected directors serve three-year terms, beginning January 1, 2025 and continuing through December 31, 2027. If you wish to self-nominate to run in this year’s election, please send an email to secretary@glta.net. You will be provided with a form Statement of Interest to complete.
The following timeline will apply to this year’s election:
* Candidate Statements of Interest Due – November 25, 2024
* Candidate Statements of Interest Sent to Voting Members – December 1, 2024
* Voting Opens – December 7, 2024
* Voting Closes – December 21, 2024
* Election Results Announced – December 23, 2024
All GLTA board elections are for at-large positions. At the first Board meeting in 2025, the Board will select the officer positions each board member will fill for the 2025 calendar year.
Serving on the Board is a volunteer activity. No compensation is provided, but partial reimbursement of expenses is available to attend two Board meetings per year (held at various locations worldwide (a meeting in Puerto Rico in February 2025 and a meeting in June/July/August 2025, likely in Europe). Board members typically dedicate anywhere from 5-15 hours of their time per week to Board activities, depending on their position, with increased participation during specific times of the year. Experience and familiarity with the tournament software is helpful for all Board members but is not a requirement.
The GLTA is made up of member organizations that hold sanctioned tournaments worldwide. Members nominate a voting representative each year when completing their tournament sanctioning application. The Board uses the organization’s most recent sanctioning application to distribute ballots. Each member representative is entitled to cast a single vote in GLTA elections. Our goal is to obtain 100% voting participation from member organizations. We encourage all GLTA players to reach out to their member organization leaders to provide feedback and ensure each organization votes.
If you have questions about the 2024 elections or serving on the GLTA Executive Board, please reach out to Matt Feinberg by email to secretary@glta.net .
