Dates & Locations: The Texas Open 2013 will be held October 5-7 (Saturday-Monday), 2013 in Dallas, Texas. Samuell Grand Tennis Center (SGTC) will be the primary site for the tournament with up to 18 lighted courts.
Host Hotel: The Host Hotel for the Texas Open 2013 is Park Inn by Radisson - Love Field, 1241 W. Mockingbird Lane. To get the great rate of $82/night plus tax (includes complimentary full American breakfast), call 1.214.630.7000 or 1.800.670.7275 and use code of Texas Open 2013.
Split Divisons: Both Singles and Doubles Events will be offered. Players may choose to split their Singles and Doubles division based on their current GLTA rankings. Divisions chosen must be at or above a player's current rank in each respective event. If a doubles team consists 2 players with different rankings, they must participate in the division of the higher-ranked player.
Draw Sizes: A minimum of 4 entries will be required for a draw to be held in any given division. Draw sizes of 4 or 5 will be in a round-robin format, with the champion and runner-up determined by total matches won. A draw size of 6 will result in 2 round-robin groups, with a championship final between the winner of each group. Draw sizes of 7 or more will be based on standard single-elimination brackets. To ensure an on-time tournament completion, the maximum draw size for any division will be capped at 48 persons for Singles and 24 teams for doubles. The maximum numbers of players for the entire tournament will be limited to 125.
Women's Draws: To support the expanding GLTA tennis community, the TO2013 is happy to offer women's draws in both Singles and Doubles, and Mixed Doubles for all levels. While we anticipate strong participation from our women contingent, note that the minimum draw size requirements mentioned above will apply. In the event a draw does not meet the minimum size, we will attempt to combine one or more divisions together. Women entrants will be given the option of either joining the combined draw for that event, or participating in the respective men's draw at one division lower than their women's ranking.
Women players who have questions or would like additional information on the women's events are encouraged to contact our Tournament Director for more details. We are in constant negotiation and marketing the TO2013 with Dallas' Sets in the City, a new women's organization for the lesbian community. We are looking forward to their participation in the Texas Open 2013.
Schedule: Match play will begin on Saturday October 5th, 2013. All finals will be played on Monday October 7th, 2013 at SGTC. Some semifinal matches may also be held on Sunday. Please make travel plans accordingly, as final matches may not complete until late Monday afternoon.
Wait List/Refunds: For each event, a waiting list will be maintained, if more entries are received than can be accommodated. As players withdraw, players on the waiting list will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. The draws will be made approximately one week prior to the start of the tournament. No refunds will be given after the draws are made. If an event is canceled due to lack of entrants, players will be given the option of playing up one division higher, or being refunded their money for that event.
Emergency Contact Information: In the event of an emergency, please provide your Emergency Contact/Phone Number. In addition, if you would like to provide any additional information to help direct your care if such an emergency occurs. Your information will only be shared with the Tournament Director and the Tournament Referee.
Confirmation: For confirmation of your entry, please re-visit this website. The participant list will be updated periodically. Confirmation will be sent, but only to applicants who provide email addresses. Confirmation phone calls and U.S. Mail will be used.
Please note, in an effort to conserve paper and unnecessary printing, complete draw sheets will not be provided as part of the tournament program nor separately in the player's tournament bag. Draws and match times will be available through a number of different media including:
• Emails sent to your email address
• Information sheets at the Draw Party
• Visual displays at/near the Tournament Information Desk
Plan to use one or more of the methods above to confirm your draws and match times.
Seeding: Seeding will be based primarily on the GLTA ranking points system. Special seeding considerations may be given as a result of recent tournament results. The tournament committee and referee will make the final decision regarding such matters.
Rules: The tournament will be played according to USTA rules, unless superseded by GLTA rules. This includes USTA's 15 minute default time. Please check-in at the tournament desk 15 minutes prior to your scheduled match time. Warm-up time will be limited to 5 minutes. Please be considerate of other players and help keep the tournament on schedule by strictly enforcing this warm-up time limit.
501(c)3 Non-Profit: The TO2013 is pleased to announce the continuation of our relationship with C.U.R.E. Their mission is to combat the continuing risks and stigma associated with HIV/AIDS. At SGTC, C.U.R.E. will display numerous panels from the Name Quilt (AIDS Memorial Quilt).

Main Draw Singles: All main draw singles matches will be best of 3 sets, with regular scoring.
Main Draw Doubles: All doubles matches will consist of 2 sets, with regular scoring. If players split sets, a 10-point super tie-break (first to 10 points, win by 2) will be used in lieu of the 3rd set. This format will also be applicable in the doubles finals.
Consolation Play (Singles & Doubles): We are pleased to be able offer consolation play in both singles and doubles to those players who lose their first round match. Consolation matches will be an 8-game pro set, with no ad scoring and a standard 7-point tie breaker at 8 games all. Consolation finals matches will be the same as described above in the Main Draw format. Consolation play will not be offered in any events which use the round-robin draw format.
Due to the large number of matches Consolation Play adds to court usage, the TO2013 Committee reserves the right to modify or cancel Consolation Play in event of inclement weather. If such a situation occurs, Consolation Doubles would be canceled first, then Consolation Singles, if deemed necessary. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
The Oak Lawn Tennis Association was formed in 1979, with the core founders starting tennis play in 1978. In 1980, OLTA held it's first lgbt tennis event (Spring Classic) in March. In October, it's 2nd lgbt tennis tournament (Fall Classic) was held during TX-OU weekend. In 1990, the events were merged to be held during the popular Columbus Day weekend and officially changed to Texas Open.

Texas weather can be unpredictable during the fall. It can in the 80's one day and in the 40's the next, with or without rain. So, pack and dress accordingly. The SGTC pro shop is large and can accommodate those adverse to the cold. But, we will have tents for the tournament desk, for CURE, etc.
